About Wobby (Actian AI Analyst)
Actian AI Analyst — formerly known as Wobby — is building the Operating System for Agentic BI.
We let data teams at companies deploy AI Analysts on top of their data warehouse and semantic layer — so their business teams can query data, and generate insights in plain English. No more analyst bottlenecks. No more waiting for a dashboard that's already outdated by the time it ships…
Following our acquisition by Actian (HCLSoftware), Wobby has become Actian AI Analyst — combining the agility and product depth we built as Wobby with the scale and reach of an established data platform. We continue to operate as a focused, fast-moving team within Actian, building the same product with greater backing and a broader market opportunity.
The role
This is not a pure design role. It's not a pure PM role either. It's something in between, and that's intentional.
Right now, our part-time product designer owns design, product thinking, customer conversations, and roadmap simultaneously. It's too much for one person part-time. We need someone who takes this on fully, with real ownership.
Roughly how your time will be spent:
- 35% — Design: specs in Notion, designs in Figma, QA before anything ships
- 25% — Product thinking: what to build next, roadmap, feature specs, edge cases
- 20% — Customer understanding: conversations, PostHog, session replays, closing the loop
- 10% — Docs, changelog, communicating new features to customers
- 10% — Frontend: minor tweaks directly in the codebase when needed
That last one matters more than it sounds. We move fast. Being blocked because you can't nudge a color or fix a spacing issue directly in the code, is not an option here.
What you'll own
- Design quality end-to-end. No inconsistent UX, unusable screens, or ugly design ships without you catching it first.
- Design specs for every big feature, written before engineering starts.
- Customer conversations. Proactively.
- PostHog and usage data. You check it, you draw conclusions, you act on them.
- The product roadmap. It reflects reality, it's useful to engineers and stakeholders, and it's always up to date.
- Docs and changelog. Customers know what we shipped.
- A point of view on what to build next. You bring it to the table — we debate it together.
What we're looking for
- A genuine obsession with understanding the customer — not just collecting feedback, but figuring out what they actually need before they can articulate it.
- Strong design instincts. You can open Figma and produce a solid spec. You have taste, and you defend it.
- Comfortable enough with code to not be blocked by it. You don't need to be a developer. But you should be able to open Claude Code, tweak a component, fix a spacing issue — or at minimum communicate it so precisely that it gets done in 5 minutes.
- Deep familiarity with the data and analytics space — this is non-negotiable. Semantic layers, data warehouses, BI tools: you don't just know the buzzwords, you understand how they fit together and why they matter. Bonus if you've worked with or alongside tools like dbt, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
- Experience in a startup. You know what it means to own something without a lot of process around you.
- Background in B2B SaaS products.
What you get
- A competitive salary and real ownership, no micromanagement.
- A say in what we build, how we work, and where we go next.
- A small, sharp team that challenges each other and raises the bar.
- Proper tools, hardware, and setup.
- Regular in-person meetups, we like to actually get together :D
- The chance to work on real AI.
